About Us

We started this blog in 2011 to organize and promote the first Alpena Tweed Ride. After a successful ride, and a lot of positive feedback we decided to continue organizing a Tweed Rides each September. Weather permitting, we will also organize a weekly bicycles ride around the beautiful city of Alpena, MI. While the Tweed Ride has a theme (see below) the weekly rides are just a group of people getting together for a little bit of free fun.

So what is a Tweed Ride you ask? ...

The first Tweed Ride (called The Tweed Run) was held in January of 2009 and went through central London. It consisted of a group of cyclists who dressed in traditional British cycling attire, particularly tweed suits to recreate the spirit of a bygone era.

Our goal is to bring the same spirit to Alpena. This will be a family friendly event with the goal of taking bicycling back to the day of a fun family adventure. We ask all to attempt the dress of the early 20th century, no matter what kind of bike you ride. This is not the event geared for the hard core road racer or mountain biker. We will travel at the speed of the slowest biker, not the fastest.

So what's up with the Club Ride?  ... (Not Currently Running)

Let's say you either live in, around or are just visiting the beautiful city of Alpena, MI. You want to go out, maybe see the town, meet some new friends in a family atmosphere, best of all do something FREE(!) ... why not come for a ride with us? All you need is a road safe bicycle and some time to spare. Each week during the Summer (and weather permitting in the Spring and Fall) we will meet at a public place and go for an hour ride around Alpena. Because there are events all around Alpena, we may need to change start location every now and then, but we will try to keep it as consistent as possible, and post any changes on this blog as soon as we know about them.
